![]() You’re being overly defensive on a true and major flaw that still exists across all toy brands. feels very much like the “world” of Barbie has shrank with the lack of playsets and toys beyond the doll Maybe in my mind the 90s ones felt sturdier as a child, but just seems junky now The songs are catchy, but gosh, the CGI is so bad. I wish they would stop making mimic lines and horrible CGI YouTube videos. trying to compete with MGA is dumb and it just doesn’t work for Barbie. Mattel made a commitment to be zero waste by 2030 and they seem to be sticking to it most of the new clothes coming out are made from recycled items. articulation is more prevalent and overall better, strange that they stopped the click knees though for budget line… Massively improved, but still missing representation from many races. The click knees didn’t go down far enough, but at least it was pretty standard ![]() ![]() I only remember a handful that could truly bend their knees or elbows (Olympic Barbie). the “series” felt a little more well thought out, ex: around the world. They came in huge separate boxes and were just SO cool! There were so many well designed and thought out play sets that felt “full”. I remember massive fashion packs and multiple shelves stacked with clothes I actively played with Barbie’s in the 90s and had SO many. So why not add that to the basic Kens as well?) Anyway, I wanted to know what you guys think about these days? And the experience of those who lived their childhood with barbies in the 80s/90s? Or why not add more knee/elbow joints on every fashionista? (Mattel does the basic Max Tell that can do multiple poses. My only complaint is when the doll packaging is overdone, generating a lot of plastic waste afterwards. I don't see a problem with clothes molded into dolls if they're for a specific trick (like a mermaid doll that can be submerged in water without spoiling) and fabric clothes seem sturdy even though they're simple. ![]() I just bought my first Black Barbie and I love seeing body and racial diversity in the Playline line (I think it's the best thing about toys today). I was a teenager away from toys, but I came back to love dolls when I bought a Descendants (from Hasbro), and I loved the gaskets and the style of Monster High and Cave Club (both from Mattel). I lived my childhood a little after the 2000s, I remember loving my long haired blonde barbie, some mermaid and fairies barbies that change color in the water and a pool playset my sister got. A healthy discussion of old Barbies and current Barbies: I wanted to comment and hear your thoughts on comparing old and current Barbie dolls. ![]()
