1/8/2024 0 Comments Joypad for silent hill 2 pc![]() ![]() Being full will result in running back to the last save room and dropping something off in your inventory chest, before picking something new up. I have a full sheet of paper to prove to you just how involved you have to get with some of these puzzles. This means either snapping a photo with the in-game camera or taking out the old pen and paper and jotting down your own notes. Players will have to get the proper code and then match it to the proper door. These doors are differentiated by a shape near the keypad. One such puzzle has Elster tune into multiple frequencies to reveal a button combination to open certain doors. This radio is used to tune into different frequencies to either retrieve codes or interact with something in the environment. The normal key fetching to open doors is there, but there are also puzzles that take multiple steps and items to find the proper solution. Puzzles spread around the facility do require some brainpower. Switching to mouse-and-keyboard unsurprisingly made aiming much easier in these encounters. This happened more often in encounters with multiple enemies. Playing on a controller there were a few times that I struggled to aim at the enemy I wanted to hit. When aiming a gun, a reticle will appear over the enemy that will take damage with the next shot. This makes the tank controls less troubling when dealing with combat. Not present are the weird, fixed camera angles, SIGNALIS instead opts for an isometric camera, looming over an entire room. Present are the tank controls, inventory management, and puzzles. The game plays just like the Resident Evils and Silent Hills that graced your living room pre-2004. Horror is elevated by the things not seen, and SIGNALIS is much more interested in keeping your mind wondering as you dive deeper and deeper into the facility. Adding to the mystery, some texts in the world are German and Japanese, which if you can’t read either, will leave you partially in the dark. There are a few anime cutscenes that give us some quick character moments, otherwise things are kept vague. The story mostly plays out through notes scattered throughout the facility. ![]() The game opens with Elster awakening from cryosleep, alone and stranded on a planet whose workers, both human and Replika, have been ravaged by a mysterious disease. Set in a dystopian future where humans have colonized the solar system, under a totalitarian regime, SIGNALIS puts players in control of Elster, a Replika (android), in search of her lost partner. While it does pay homage to the grandparent entries of modern horror games, SIGNALIS is a reminder that something old can be new again, and in turn, can be great. Who can blame them? The indie scene is overrun with developers chasing that early 90s nostalgia. When I was assigned SIGNALIS for review, I was worried the developer, Rose-Engine, would put smooth gameplay on the backburner, in favor of clinging to the inspiration of clunky horror titles of the PlayStation era. The fixed camera angles, tank controls, and cramped quarters, all which made them classics, have been replaced in recent iterations with third-person action, wide open spaces, and hordes of enemies. Titles like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Fear Effect popularized horror on consoles and created a new generation of horror fans. Time has not been the kindest to the horror games of the original PlayStation. ![]()
